Ab the annual Convention of the Southland Branch of the New ZpaUnd Alliance to-day, resolutions were passed that the Convention protests against the inequitable and unjust provisions of the Government Licencing Bill, on the grounds that it places the settlement of the question of prohibition in the hands of a minority of two-fifths of the electors plus one, unnecessarily cnmplic+tes the ballot pap9rs, retains the' provisions for reduction of the Act of 1893, while destroying the provisions for adding the no license votes to the reduction vo'es, and practically destroys all chance of carrying no license ar any poll by complicating the issues, and is in other respects opposed to
the inter at of rpforra ; a^o, that the Conven ion calls upon M.H.R.'s to vote for the Bill framed hy the Alliance, and to support its principle ; also, to endeavor to hare the principles of tlufc Bill included in the Government Bill in the event of the Alliance Bill being superseded.
