NORTH OTAGO MOUNTED RIFLES.

Tho annual meeting and inspection of the above troop was held yesterday. The meeting was held in the rooms At the Kahanga Club, and CapUin Chaffey piesided. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Captain Chaffey announced that Sergt.Mijor Piper had resigned from tho troop, hia private profession not allowing him the necessary time to devoto to hia troop duties. On the motion of Sergr. Atkinson, Sorgt. Stringer was unanimously appointed to the vacancy created by Sergt.Major Piper's resignation. On the motion of Captain Ch-tffey, seconded by Lieut. N'cholls, it whs resolved to appoint Mr Piper an honorary life member. 1 Corporal Wylie and Trooper Holmes were appointed a fin nice committee. Troopers Hny and Newton wore appointed auditor*. It was decided that thera bo an atmuil charge of LI, with no further liabilities". It was resolved, if possible, to join the Otago Hmsirs at PMinerston for the annual training. / It was resolved to hold three matches by each confingent for the Mayor's trophy, a prize to be given for each highest score and two highest aggregates in two matches in eich contingont, to be fired off in O*maru. A vote of thanks was returned to Mr Moss for the offer of a gold s'ar valued at L3 33 for tho leader of tho champion section. The meeting then closed. The troop was subsequently inspected at tho drill ahed by Colonol Webb, there being a splendid muster. The staff present wore : Colonel Wobb, Colonel Sumptcr,and Sergeant-Major M'Pherson, After the inspection Colonel Wobb complimented the men on the splendid muster, their soldierly bearing, and tho cleanliness of their accoutrements. Ho also stated that ho hoped before next inspection to see them all armed with the Martini-Henri riile.
