ANOTHER WOOLSHED BURNED. A SHOOTING ATTRAY WITH LOSS OF LIFE.
The most infamous riot that has yet occurred iu connection with tho shearers' striko took place at Dag worth, on tho Upper Diimiutina, about 70 miles north-west from Wiuton, About 2 o'clock on Sunday morning a band of armed men approached tho vvoolbhed at Dagworth, and finding it guarded by a constable and a station hand, they at once fired a do/.on .shots, and under cover of this tho .shod wan sot on fire. Tho .shooting awakened Messrs Macpherson, tho proprietors of Dagworth, and others, and then tho tiring vras taken up on both bides, and lasted for about twenty minutes. Tho hhed was struck in several places, and tho cottage, in which Messrs Maophorsjn were .sleeping, was struck by three bullets. Tho unionists took up a position in tho bed of the creek, and wero, in a measure, protected from tho firo of the defenders of the shed. Tho bhed was completely destroyed by fire. The attacking rioters do nod appear to have got off »cot free, an a man mined Uoffmeister, a prominent unionist, has since been found dead about two miles from Kyuna. Tho unionists .state that he committed suicide. It in reported that thero aro three wounded men iu tho striker's camp at Kyuii't. Arrangements wero made to commence shearing at Dagworth on August 14, but it was delayed on account of tho strike. There aro about 80,000 bheep on the station, and tho .shod had stands for 40 shearers. Tho police magistrate, tho Government medical officer and fnspector Dillon haro gone to tho strikers' camp. In consequence of the .seriousness of this outrage, the Government are taking active step* to deal with peiv-on* found armed, and it is> probable that a proclamation prohibit* ing the carrying of firearms will bo issued. — Australasian, Hoptoinber 8. 18U4.
