CONCERT AND DANCE AT MAREWHENUA. (FROM A CORRESPONDENT.)

A successful concott and danoo was tjiven in tho Murewhonua schoolbouse on Friday evening, September 14th, in aid of tho school funds. Tbo weather was line, and a large number of people gathered together. Tho chairman (Mr Wm. Bailoy) said in his sfieech that funds were required by tho Uoratniifceo, nnd he thought ho had one of the besb programmes that bad ever boon placed boforo an audience jn that district).— (Applause ) The chairman then called on Mies MTvor, of Duntroon, to open tbo concert by playing an overturo on tho piano, which fihe did splendidly, but would not accept an oncoro, A eeleobion by tho school children, under the ouporvißion of Mies Beveridgo, was nicely aung. A comic sont; by Mr Donald Kennedy (in eharac er) was well received. Song, by Mrs Morris, " Rose, Thistle, and Shumrook," was capitally sung, and she was loudly re-onlled, Mr James Tripps comio eong was eplondidly gone through and was oncorod, when ho sang, "Biddy, My Darling." Mr James Weir's recitation was given in good etyle. Mr Joseph Johnetone'a comic aong, "The Nobleman's Son," was well received, and was loudly applauded, Mr John Howe Bang nicely "The Blue Ribbon Army;" Mr L. Murray gave'a oplendidroading, whioh wag well appreciated by tho audience. " The March of the Cameron Men " whs well rendered by Mrs Simpson, who received an encore. Mr Sincook sang <( Daisy Boll " in good style. Mr GeorgoTripp sang " Grace Darling " nicely. Mr Fridd aang «&. Vixon for a Wife " splendidly. Mrs Grey sung " When shall wo moot again " in capital voice and tune. This concluded the first part of tho programme. Tho second part was as aucoessful as tho first. Votes of thanks were passed to tho audience for assisting in tho way they had dono. Votes of thanks woro also proponed by Mr Wm. Bailey to the performers for performing in tho manner they had, Mr D. Kennedy proposed a vote of thanks to the chairman for tho ablo manner in which ho had' fillod tbo position oi cbttirmau during the evening. Eatables were handed round by Mieseo Bailoy, Houston, Thorp, and Wilson. Dancing commenced at twelve, and was kept going till daylight, rausio boing suppliod by Messrs Wm. Bailey, Frator, and Gallagher (violins), and Mm Bovcridge (piano). Messrs D. Kennedy and F. foinoook aoting as M.0.8.
