WOMEN IN AMERICAN POLITICS.
Mra Cleveland, wife of the Democratic c&odid»ie for the Presidency of the United States, waa informed tbat her name had been adopted by an electioneering club formed by a number of energetic political Indies. The exPrebident leplipd : " My dear Madam. Mrs Cleveland has referred to me your letter infrrming ber of the organ Bation of a • Fraorea Clevelaod Influence Club.' It is by no mf-ans pleasaot to dissent from the methods which sincere friendi* adept when thpir effo>ta coj only demonstrate tbeir friendliness, but when they also ss-ek 10 subserve tbe public goad, pod are therefore engaged in a patriotic eerv ce. It is, howevei, impossible for us to approve of the use of Mrs Cleveland's name in the designation of clubs designed 10 do political work. We trust yfu w U nob undervalue our ot'jecion, because it rests uptn theBentiment that ihe inma now sacred in tbe home circle as wife ana mother may well be spared in the ttgamsation and operation of clubs created to exert political influence.'
