Some230 unemployed turned up to-day, when the Mayor, city mombers, and manager of the Bureau of Industries selected 175 to proceed to work on the Otago Central. Those selected are marricd men with large families and a fen single men who h»ve parents to support. The new statement of the Master Bootmikers' Association whs to h,we come into operation to-day, and a number nf operatives, acting under the impres~ sion it wan in force, left the factories as they finished their work under the old statement. It is understood the now statement lias been withdrawn for the present, and that those who left work will return lor u few days to sen if a conference is arranged. It is understood that if no definite news is received about a conference boiny arranged <t largo number of operatives will leavo by the Jubilee for Sydney.
