Arrived— Wainui, from Samoa, TongA and Fiji, with a large cargo of fruit. Sho reports that things are quiet at the Islands. H.M.S. Goldfinch was lying at Suva. Ratu Sala (Fiji chief), and Mr Chisholm, Auditor-General of Fiji, are* passengers. The trial of Thomas and his wife at Hakaru for alleged illtre.itment of their child is closed. Thomas has been committed for trial, and will he charged with manslaughter. His wife was acquitted. A man named M'Kee, an old resident of Waihou, was found dead in a ditch containing eighteen inches of water, near Te Aroha. An association in the interest of fruitgrowero has been established at Otahuhu. One of its objects will be tho systematic .export of fruit. I^4 An effort ia to be mado for the working oi the low levels below the (540 feet lovel at the Thames, and it is suggested that the companies owning tho various mines should unite in one company for that purpose.
