A CHARGE OF ROBBERY.
(by telegraph.) Wawganui, October 12. w r\ tne Supreme Court this morning, William Nohl.. and Harry Lning were charged with stealing L23O from the per son of Joaiph Abbot. Mr Fitzhorbert appeared for the Crown. Mr Coatea, of Wellington, for Noblo ; and Mr Hogg for L-iing. William Pinches, 0. W. Denny, •Joseph Al bott, James Laing, John Campbell, Thomas Rowo,HenryS*muel Ctthro, Julm Milligan, Tom Gordon, and a constable were examined for tho prosecution. The only new point adduced militated against the Crown, showing that accused had expressed their intention of going to Opokongoro before they know, so far as tho evidence showed, that Abbot was going there with the money. No evidence was called for the defence. Mr Coates, in addressing the jury, relied on the great lack of evidence, all of which was circumstantial. Mr Hogg followed in a similar strain. The summing up occupied half an hour, and tho jury retired at six o'clock, returning at nine o'clock with a verdict of guilty ngninst both. Sentence was deferred until Wednesday morning.
