LICENSING ELECTIONS.
\ The ratepayers of the Waiareka district ! I) we not followed the example of Oamaru in thu election ci a licensing committee — they have, in fact, returned a committee holding exactly the opposite opinions on the liquor question to the committee that it was generally expected would be returned. In town it was accepted as a foregone, conclusion that Waiarekn would go fur prohibition, but tlio resu/t has pruved that these opinions were unwarranted. At Ngapara the Moderates had a Binall m ijoi'ity ; at Enlield, tho voting wan, with one exception, strangely even ; and at Weston, which the Prohibitionists counted on as the stronghold of the ciuso, there was a more decided majority against them. A number of (Ximaru residents went to Weston to vote, and these qavo their votes mostly in favor of the Moderate party. The following ia the voting :

The above are unofficial figures, but Ng.\p<ir,v and Wesion are correct, and those of Eun'eld maybe taken as approximately so. The majority of voters (over the whole district) in favor of the moderate candidates wns 14.
