Received May 2, at noon Brisbane, May 2. The eight hours demonstration took place at Barcaldine yesterday, when 1200 unionists marched in procession. The Chairman of the Strike Committee intimated that the pastoralibts pivferred to arbitrate, but the men said they would fight the matter to the bitter end. He said that, from evidence, he was convinced of the truth of the attempted poisoning of a, trooper by means of an apple poisoned with strychnine, and called upon every unionist to assist in producing the culprit. The proceedings were orderly. It is estimated that L1600 will be required weekly to maintain the strike. Sailed— D'Arcy Pratt, for Auckland.
