THE ATHENÆUM BAZAAR.

Tho bazaar, to uso a very hacknoyed phrase, did a rattling good business yesterday afternoon and ovoning. Besides tho bazaar iteolf, which is woll worthy of a visit, thoro was tho flower show. Seeing tliut thoro arc no prizes tho local florists havo gone to ft great deal of trouble to mako the show as good if not bettor than many of tho exhibitions held under tho Horticultural Society. Tho show is well j arranged in tho upper room of tho Public Hall, and at tho small chargo for admission of sixpence it was expected that thoro would bo a largo ittondanco, and tho rosult was highly satisfactory. It would bo impossible in the space at our command to go into all tho details of tho flower show and deacribo tbo individual exhibits of tho many oxhibitors who havo in their sovoral ways contributed to tho succors of the bazaar, and tho bonofitting of the funds of ono of tho most deserving of institutions. Wo may say that Mr Dowling'a calcoolarias (\ro a splendid collection, and mako a beautiful exhibit. Mr Ireland shows rhododendrons, ferns, and foliage, and bogonias, and Mr Dawson somo fino pelargoniums and choice plants. Messrs Oottrelland Scott havo excellent collcotionf of foms; Mv Imidir pelargoniums, and Mr M'Oorkindale petunias and vhododendrums, Thoro ore among tho features of tho show in the amateur section of pot plants. The gardeners, too, havo entored enthusiastically into making tho show a good one, and a few of their exhibits arc worthy of spocial mention. Thort, aro Mr D. Edwards' fuschiaa and rosos—ono of which is the now rose, Her Majesty, for which tho groat American journalist, Mr Gordon Bonnott, gave such a fabulous sum when in England — all especially worthy of notice Mr Thomas M'Oombo exhibits as fino pelargoniums as wo havo soon for a long time, and Mr Adam Forsyth has a well assorted collection, including a double carnation. Mr Georgo Ross Jms an ftcUntmblo collocbion of iwtmlo and regal pelargoniums on view, and in cut roses this exhibitor shows a boautiful collection of fully six dozon variotios of roses ; and Mrs "Wood, of Nowborough has also a lob of fino roseo. Messrs Gob* bio, M 'Donald, Glyn, and M'Oorkiudalo show stands of mixed flowers ; while Messrs Gilchrist, Mitchell, and Bradbury are strong in pansios with very fino varieties. Ono of tho principal features of the show rao some exquisito watorcolor paintings by Miss Bruce. These paintings are studies from specimong grown by Messrs Bioknoll, Brownleo, Montagu, Dawson, and Frew. Mistt Bruce has boon undor tho tuition of Miss Dansoy, who is leaving Oamaru for Temuka, whore wo havo no doubt sho will moot with as much success as sho dosorves, for Oamaru is losing a young lady of oxcoptional artistic ability. During tho evening tho membors of tho Girls' Olub portrayed a numbor of historical and othor tableaux, which woro well done and warmly received. These wore— "Sarioho Panza," "The Duchoss," " King Loar," " Tho Victim, or Paying tho Piper," "The Past, tho Present, and tho Future," " The Goddess of Flowers." The Garrison Band playod outetdo tho hall in tho oarly part of the ovoning. Tho total takings during tho day woro LllO.
