Thomas Spurgeon addressed a meeting iv tho Baptist Church last night, and there was a good attendance. The subject of Mr Spurgeon's address was "How to make tho mission a failure," and to show how it could bo done the speaker dealt with his subject under the following heads : By cherishing anything displeasing to God, by bitterness, unholiness, impure motives, half-hcartedness, self reliance, and unbelief. The speakor dealt with all these subject i in detail, and whilo admitting that tho existence of ouch a state of things would have tho effect of making the mission a faihue, ho urged upon his hearers to act in an entirely opposite spirit, and make the mission a success. "Ho that doubteth is like the surgo of tho sea, driven by tho wind and tossed ; for let not that man think he shall receive anything of tho Lord." He did not look to the possibility of failure of tho mission, but hoped for an altogether opposite result. During tho evening several of Sankey's hymns were sung.
