The Trades and Labor Council have appointed a deputation to wait on tho Maritime Council, with a view to bringing about a grand federation of labor throughout tho colony. A doputation wag also appointod to wait on the Government urging {that Demonstration Day (October 28) be proclaimed a holiday. T.ho ship Otaki has had.a succession of squally weather, and her run from tho Cape occupied 03 days. A libel action, arising out of tho lato Petono Woollen Mills dispute, was hoard to-day. D. M'Kenzie, secretary of the ! outsido union, chargod G. A. Bailey, a shoemaker, of Pobono, with exhibiting in his shop window a document; reflecting , on plaintiff. Accused was committed for trial. Tho ox-oporuUvos of tho Potone Woollen Mills have written to tho Trade? and Labor Council demanding further striko pay, and threatening, iv default of com plianco, tho institution of legal pioceedings. Tho ship Otaki, which arrived to-diy, saw nothing of tho barque Assayo, now five months out from London.
