Mr Turnbuil, mombor for Timaru, diod thia evening, and when the House m«t at 7.30 the Acting-Premier (the Hon. Mr Mitcholson) rose, and in very feeling terms intimated the sad fact to Mr apftaker and the House. Mr Turnbull, ho said, had been a membor of the Hou«o since 187$, and he was a man of great honesty of purpose, and possessed those fine and sterling qualities which made him valuable as a friend and as a public servant. Ho (Mr Mifcchelson) had personally experienced the valuo of his advice on public and personal grounds. He was aure that members would agree with him in moving the adjournment of the House until 2.30 next day, and that Mr Speaker be requested to transmit to Mr Turnbulls widow and family an expression of their sympathy, and a transcript of their proceedings on that occasion, The Hon. Mr Ballance, as loader of the Opposition, seconded the motion for adjournment aa an appropriate tribute from tl)e Hcuse to a member whoso qualities had endeared him to a wide circle of friends. In Mr Turnbull tho colony had lost one of its most upright and conscientious friends and servants, and ho hoped the deepest sympathy of the House would be conveyed to Mr Turnbuil's widow and family. Mr Vinccut Pyko, who was dooply affected, said ; I have lost my friend, tho country a patriot, and the House a most faithful representative. I can say no more. Mr Arthur Khodcs, Mr W. 0. Walker, and' Major Steward, also addressed tho House, and the motion for adjournment trag carried nem. con. Mr Turnbull was 04 years of ago.
