The wharf laborers refused to proceed with the unloading of the Tokapo and Jubilee this morning in consoquencc of the adoption of a new practice repugnant to the men, namely, the engaging of two unionists to supervise the work. Ihey view this as an attempt to introduce the sweating system into wharf labor. The men say if the owners do not wish to do the work themselves they should let it by contract to a body of men who will then divide the profits. The men avert they are determined to resent the introduction of the new system by all means at their command, and will get rid of the stevedores, and take the work direct. The owners' action tins morning was taken on their own responsibility, but they were assured they will bo supported by tho Union.
