MURDER AND ATTEMPTED SUI CIDE AT ASHBURTON.
(BT TELEGRAPH.) Asubukton, D cember 29. The murder of a bay and the attempted suicide of ihe mother took place at tbe Rakaii ßiver this afternoon. The mother tied tbe child to herself and jumped into tbe water. The child is d ad. The mother is in the hands of Dr Winers, and is progressing towards recovery. The woman bas the appearance of a widow from her dress, and it is rumoured that her name is Da'ziel, and that her husband died some months ago. Aa ir. quest will be held 10-morrow. Chkiktchotich, D-cember 29. A shocking tragedy ccsured at R.kala, namely, tbe murder of a boy by his mother, and the attempted suicide of the woman.
