WAIAREKA ROAD BOARD.

A meeting of the "Walareka Road Board wag held on Tuesday last in the Board's rffices, when there were present — Mesare Reid (chairman), Meek, Menlove, Isdale, and Todd.

The minutes of last meeting were rend and confirmed.

MeSßre Hislop and Creagh wrote stating that Road Boards were not obliged to under 1 ake tho formation of any roads even If dedicated, but if th<-y proceeded to exeoute works on such roads they would be liable under the circumstances mentioned in their previous letter.

The Chairman said this waa a most Important matter, and it would be well if a reeolution were mads and minuted.

Mr Todd moved tbat the Chairman be requested to call a meeting of tbe joint Road Boarcta Committee anent tbe question, to draw up a resolution for presentation at next meeting.

It was reiolved to confer with the Chairman of the Waitaki Board, and to oall a special meeting prior to the 11th prox. Mr Georgß Bruce asked that the ford of the Osmaru creek leading to the Phcealx Mill be repaired, as it had been trashed away by the l»e< flood,

The Clerk Baid the Waitaki Road Bo&rci bad undertaken the work, and afjked that half payment should be refunded — Agreed to. la reply to Mr Todd, the Clerk said the resolution re contract 115, Enfield road, waa ooly meant to apply ro that portion opposite Mr Falconer's. Mi* Todd explained that the 13 chains of metalling asked fcr by him for Friston road W''fl to complete tbe metnlllng already done on tbe road from Eofield to Maheco, and that had not been done before for want of funds. He said that in bad weather the road wai impassable for want of metal at this part. If tbe work were oarried out tbe road oould be ÜBed when the lower Waiareka road could nob be used for traffic. ,

Mr Todd thought this unnecessary, and proposed tbat - tenders be again called for Contract 115, as a whole and separately. Mr Isdale said be would oecond tbe part referring to Mr Falconer's work. In reply to Mr Todd, Mr Reid said he hoped LIOO would cover the cost of repairs to Burnaide road. Mr Menlove seconded Mr Todd's proposal, and also proposed to add to tbe motion tbat tenders be called for the work on Burnside road at the same time, to which Mr Todd agreed to.

Ai no tenders were received for contracts No. 115 and 116, it was oeaolved to call for fresb tenders for the work, to be In by next meeting. Mr Meek reported that Mr Jackson had waited upon the Waitaki Road Board at its last meeting with referenoe to the County Council taking over the Airedale road, and that the Waitaki Road Board was agreeable, and thought the road ahould be regarded as a main road.

Mr Meek also laid the Waitaki Road Board was of the name opinion as they were, that the road through Ardgowan ahould not be recognised until a eonaectio» with some other road was shown.

On the motion of Mr Todd, seconded by Ur Meek, it was resolved that the olerk should write to the County Conncil to the effect that the Waiarcka Road Board had Bpent L 9 16s 4d in forming Benderßon'a road, end asking them to open it through to Kakanui, in terms of the Council's memo, of August last.

Aeooubta amounting to L 73 14i 6d were faieed for payment, and the Board rose.
