CHRISTCHURCH.
October 11. Colonel Whitmore left for the north last night. A eerious hitch was very nearly occurring in regard to the Friendly Societies' excursion, but all is now satisfactorily arranged. The Union Company's agent hrs informed the Societies' Committee that the Wakatipu could not take the excursion to Wellington as proposed, but offered to take them per the Tekapo on a night trip. This was considered unsatisfactory, and arrangements have been made for the Tekapo to take the parly on a day trip, leaving Lyttelton in the morning.
