President, Jasper Nioolls, Esq ; Vice-Presi-dent, Duncan Sutherland, Esq ; Judge, Jasper Nioolls; Starter. Edward Lefevre ; Clonk of the Course, Geo Adlam ; Clerk of Scales, E C Smith ; Handicappor, X Hamilton. Stewaida — Messrs J and T Hall, B B Welsh, G A Harris, D Sutherland, J Maofarlane, A Btlfour, A Sutherland, Wm Goddard, B Dolargy, L Ayson, H Stoddart, Wm Beattie, F Hille, Wm Blyth, J Orr, J Molloy, J Austin, P Treahy. Wm Johnson, W H Brooks, This club held its race meeting yesterday on the old course above the township, and tbe attendance was capital. Amongst those present were settlers from all parts of the district, and a goodly sprinkling of the fair ccx. The meeting turned out very successful, the racing being in nearly every instance pood ; and there is little doubt that if the Committee held the races a little earlier in the year, and increased the value of the etakes they would prove to be one of the most successful gatherings in the country districts of Otago ; us they have already one of tho moat important of the factors that go to make it bo, and that is a really fine courae. Yeßterday it wbs just a triflo bard, but in ordinary seasons it would be very good going. As was expected, the time in several of the races was arove the average, notably the Ductroon Handicap, which was run in 2mins. 4H^ecs., the winner (Dunluce) being a full brother to the well-known hurdle racfr Little John. Again, the Consolation was won by Gaiterß, who disappointed bia many admirers in the bi? handicap, in lmln. 48secs. Mr E. Lefevre gave great satisfaction in his capacity as starter, and the same remark also applies to the Judge (Mr Nicolls), who had one very cloie finish to decide, namely, that between Ino and Marion in the Novel race. The Secretary (Mr M'Gregor) and the rest of the officials worked heartily together to make the meeting pass off smoothly, and as we have already stated their efforts were crowned with success. Mr B. B. Welsh bad a publican's booth on the ground, in which he and his aaaiatnnta were kept busy dispensing liquid refreshments during the day. Tho totnlisator put through the good round sura of L 397, and the machine was worked without a hitch by the proprietors, Messrs C. J. Harris and Go. The following are the particulars of tho different events : Maiden Plate of 10 bovb. One mile. vVoight for age. Quibblo was made a strong favorite. Ho had the inside running, and from a good start he took command, with Spcargrass second. At the back of tbe 'course the field was pretty well in a cluster, but although different horses made a run at Quibble, he won at the finish, hard bold, by a length. Time— lmin. 52£aecs. Tommy (late Rocket) was a good second, m but he broke two or three times ; Dexter, Wby doing the same, threw^ away what * chance be had of appropriating the Btakep. Furtrader was the favorite on the totalisalor. A good start was effected, nnd Dunluce and Pluto were seen to be at the head of affairs on passing the stand the Brat time. The favorite, Fenells, and Gaiters were lying in handy positions. When about a mile had been traversed Furtrader was cent along after the leaderß. lie Boon got on terms with Dunluce, nnd Fenella coming up, the three reced on pretty ovtri terms until about a quarter cf a mile from borne, when it was econ that the favorite was beaten. From this out the

issue wns confined to Dunluce nid Fm.Hn, nnd the former lastin« longest, won by a length and a half in 2mins. 48|sec3. When tho half mile waß reached, the latter went up to Marion, and a desperate race eimied from thence to tho judge's stand. Three lengths from the winning post Marion had an advantage of half a head, but Murray on Ino reminding her with tho whip just managed to reverse the posi- [ tinns when the post was reached.
