DUNEDIN.
October 9. At the Harbor Board meeting to day some discussion took place ss to the depth of water in the Victoria Channel. Mr Elder (Port Chalmers) contended that tad Colonial Bank, in sending Home copies of an address delivered by the viee -President of the Chamber of Commerce did so with a view to getting the best price for the debentures, and as the information was not reliable, investors would be deceived. The Chairman replied that while the actual depth mentioned did not occur everywhere, 270 soundings taken gave 12 feet as the least depth at low water, and that was near the wharf where the channel was siltiog up. The Acclimatisation Society have re. Eolved to suggest to the Government that Dr yon Haast should make enquiries re the introduction of the chamois during his visit Home. During the discussion, it was stated that the fallow deer at present in the Falmerston district were proving a nuisance, as when feed became scarce they came down into the turnip fields. Parry, a draper, who sustained an injury by an obstruction on the Mornington tramway, has commenced an action in which damages are laid at LTSO.
