London, May 20. James Munroe, of Melbourne, at present in London, had an interview with Earl Darby, and urged the necessity for strictly prohibiting the sale of alcoholic liquors to the natives of New Guinea. Earl Derby promised to give earnest consideration to the matter.

May 22. The outbreak of cholera at Marseilles is sporadic, or scattered in character.

Mr Garrick, Agent-General for Queensland, has accepted the decoration of Knight Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George, offered him by Her Majesty. It is probable that Colonel Richardson, commander of the New South Wales contingent, will be created a Knight Commander of the Bath. Sargcod, viinißter for Defence, Victoria ; Mr Beery, ex chief secretory of South Aua tralia ; also the superior officers who accompanied the NBw South Wales contingent to the Soudan, will, it is rumored, be decorated Companions of the Order of St. Michael and St. George.

Mr Wilfred Parnell his been appointed British consul at the Navigators Islands.

May 25.

Mr Thuraton, Colonial Secretary for Fiji, has been appointed Lieutenant.Governor of that colony. It is probable that Sir Arthur Slibank Haveloctc will be the next Governor of Fiji.

May 26. The steamer Stirling Castle, engaged by the British government as a war Cruiser, is now undergoing the necessary alterations at Malta. When completed it ia probable she will ba despatched to Australia.
