Tho mombei'B of tho Institution of Civil Engineers entertained Sir Henry Purkes, Premier of New South Wales, at dinner to-day. Mr 0. Horgory, formerly President of the Society, presided, aud, in proposing tho health of their guest, warmly eulogised tho enterprise and industry of the colonies. Sir Henry Parkes, in replying to the toast, predicted an amazing growth for Australia in the future, aud at tho same timo expressed his belief that the colonies would continue to ding to tho Mother Country, and maintain the integrity of tho Empire. The charges of defrauding a money lender, which wore preferred against tho Marquis of Huntly, for whoso apprehension a warrant was issued in January last, have been withdrawn. Information has been received to day from Ireland'to tho effect that at Westtneath a landlord named Stuythe was fired at. The shot killed Mrs Smythe, a relative.
