Tlio stewards of the Taranaki Jockey Club, after investigating the affair in connection with the winner of tho Autumn Handioap, have deoided to disqualify tho horse Rmdwiok and his owner for over, and the jockey for two years. Tho local option poll for East Ward, Borough of New Plymouth, was taken yesterday, and resulted in 33 persons goinij to vote out of 400 ratepayers ; 28 voted against more publicans' licenses, and 5 in favor. The whole of tho 4000 shares in the Taranaki Iron Sand Co. have boon taken up by local people. A serious accident happened to-day at the waterworks to one of the workmen named Bnokland. He was engaged in wheeling a barroff across a plank at the dam, when the barrow went over tho plank, and Buckland fell, striking the ground with his head, and receiving a nasty Bcalp wound. Tho wound is a serious one. Buckland had a narrow escape of losing his life, Jas. Harrison w.is charged before the 11. M, this morning with having at Opunake, on the 26th March, killed a bull, the property of Hakatea, with intent to stoal the same. After hoaring the evidenoe, the case was dismissed.
