There is every prospect of tho Exhibition building being finished before the dry weather breaks up. Rain threatened yesterday, which would havo boon extremoly awkward, as tho art gallery is still open to the sky ; but it has held off all day, and there are good hopes of pelting it done in time. The following cnses were disposed of at the Supreme Court to-day : John Gilpin (the larrikin assault oaae), two years' hard labor ; Alex. Johnston, foruory and uttering, acquitted ; Edward Thomas, for iml>orsoniting one J.un^s Thomas at the Chevi- t election — the Judge waa not satisfied that it was an indictable ollenoo at all, and reservedjthepoint, takingseounty from the prisoner in two sureties of Ll5O each to come up ah the next sessions. Chas. Jas. Emmett was found guilty of rapo and sentence was deferred. Sentences wove pAssod on the men convicted vestorday as follows : Matthew M'Oallum, larceny, 18Jmontha' hard labor ; Arthur Sutton, a boy of 13, indecent assault, 30 days' imprisonment and two floggings of 15 lashes each ; J. OBrien, larceny, 3 years' penal 9 <i vitude. The City Council last night voted tho Mayor an additional L2OO for the year, in consideration of the greatly increased expense ho will be put to during the Exhibition period. The Benevolent Association report an increase in the applications for relief, and that the cases in which relief has been granted havo averaged 100 per month during tho past seven monthi.
