At the Supreme Court to-day, Robert Ilickling, on a ohargo of indecent assault, nil acquitted. So far the Supremo Court sessions have been very barren, only one case out of seven resulting in a conviction. At a mooting of tho directors of the Wollington-Manavratu Railway Company, hold to-day, tho appointment of an engineer to the railway was conferred upon Mr H. P. Hitjginson. M.O E. It was resolved that the engineer bo instructed to take stops as speedily as possible for inviting tenders for the first seotion of railway construction at the Palmerston end. It was stated at the meeting that the plans are in so forward a state of preparation that it is probable tenders trill be called in the course of the next ten days for constructing the first mile out of Wellington, and for the reclamation in oonneotion therewith. The Premier is somewhat better to-day, but is still confined to hi« room. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, several publicans were fined in various Bums from 6s to L 5 for breach of the Licensing Act. Tho steamer Penguin, which crossed tho Manukau bar with tho 'Frisco mail at a quarter past one this afternoon, is expected to arrive about 8 o'olook to-morrow evening.
