CHRISTCHURCH. September 26.
The petitiou in favor of running Sunday trains has over 1000 signatures, and will bo presented to the company to-day. The tirst game of base ball ever seen hero was played on Saturday at Christ's College. The City Council has given its sanction and support to Messrs Joubert and Twopenny's Exhibition. Over 200 men applied for enlistment to-day, and 106 were picked out. Mr Ooleman says he is surprised at the phyßique of tho applicants, the men ho has selected being of exceptionally good build and appearance. lie has telegraphed to learn whether ho is to take any more.
