FLEMING AND HEDLEYS SALE.

This Bale was continued yesterday, and oertainly with ft greater amount of satisfaotion to the yon dors than they gould have derived from' the transactions of Tuesday, Tho bidding approached the value of the animals offered nearer than did that of tho preceding day, The quality of tho itoalc was something superb, and soveral of the mare* and fill ion sold are sufficiently good to bo matohod with anything in the colonies. Maggie Lauder II (Miss Donaldson) is one of tho grandest fillies ever seen in Oamaru, and when she was knocked down to the bid of Mr E. Menlove three cheers were given for that gentleman. The price was 180 guineas. Maggie Lauder 11. is by Yonng Banker. Annie Laurie 1., by Sir William Wallace, is another splendid animal, and was also purchased by Mr Menlove for 137| guineas. This gentleman is evidently determined to maintain his reputation as a breeder and owner of first-class ■took. Nannie, a mare purchased by Mr John Reid, of Elderilie, js a grand

boasl, also by Sir William Wallace, and was a prizo - taker at several shows. Hor prioo was 120 guinea?. Mr John lleid also purohased Princess of Wales, her price being 100 guineas. Maggie M'Cormick was bought by Mr J. Russell for 100 guineas, and goes to Southland. Mr W. Boag, of Canterbury, secured Clarinda for 115 guineas. It may be said that the pick of the stock yet re mains in the distriot, and this faot must betaken as very complimentary to the judgment and enterprise of our looal breeders. Two year's ago the same animals would have brought perhaps double the money, mid the prices obtained are therefore nut indicative of their real value, but rather the rotult of a greatly tightened money market. Still nothing but first-class animals would have realised at the present time the prices obtained yesterday, and this fact must act as an incentive to those who rear draught stock of the description under notice.
