OAMARU LABOR MARKET.
Mr H. Mackintosh reports for the week ending May 17th, as follows : The demand for all classes of labor has improved very much during the week, farm and station hands being freely enquired for, numbers meeting with engagements, but still * great number idle. There is still a scarcity of female servants of this class. Men cooks are scarce. Day labor pretty well employed. Mechanics of all classes arc also getting plenty of work. Numbers of laboring men are employed at the grain stores, the shipping, and the railway, loading and unloading, at remunerative wages, but there are still a great number idle. We are anxiously looking forward to the float 'u« of the several loans, so as the" works will be started soon ; if not, I am afraid the v .nter will be a hard one for the working classes. Rates of wages unchanged.
