DEATH BY DROWNING.

A sad accident occurred near Mr Teschemakers estate yesterday morning, resulting in the death by drowning of a young man named O'Connor Dorwmad, m company with three others, went down to the Kakanut river with the intention of bathing, and was the first to get into the water. He succeeded in swimming across the stream, and was in the act of returning when his companions, who by this time were ready to enter the water, noticed that he was sinking, being apparently seized with cramp. One of them plungod in to his assistance, and deceased catching hold of him nearly dragged him to the bottom. He however contrived to extricate himself, And seeing be could bo of no service to the drowning man swam to the shore, and with his companions at onoe gave information to Mr Teschmaker, by whom a mounted mesunaw wu despatcLecl to Oim»ra. Constable Donovan rode ont to the spot, and dragged for the body, which, after some troubb, was recovered, and brought into town, and taken to the Northern Hotel. We understand that as an inquest has been deemed unnecessary, deceased will be buried to-day. O'Connor was known as a steady, sober, and industrious young man. He was unmarried, and had we believe no relations in the colony, but he had only a few days before his death nominated two of his brothers as Government immigrants.
