In the news received by the mail it is stated that Mr Russell has been oflfored L5OO on his bargain if he will return the horse Musket to England, but he refused the offer. Musket is in Melbourne, and will reach Auckland by the Hero. At the opening < f the first lodge of the Order of the Loyal United Friends, under t'<e New Zealand Constitution, the mysteries of the Order were explained, showing h;w much good has .been done in England since its foundation in 1829 Be the Thames pump difficulty, the Chamber of Commerce committee see no other possible solution but for the Thames County Council to contribute, for gold duty ropeived, one-half of the cost of continuing the working of the pump at 400 ft. level, and that tho companies interested contribute the other half. At the Police Court, Deborah Hood, of Ngaruawahia, was charged with .travelling on the railway without a ticket, and was fined L 3 and costs. A similar charge against Alice Fell was withdrawn. The evidence showed great laxity of certain railway officials. The sixth annual meeting of the Wes ley an Conference commenced its sittings this evening, at Pitt street Church. There was a large gathering of ministers from different parts of the bolony. The following officebearers were elected : — The Rev. W. Morloy, presidert ; Rev. R. Bavin, secretary ; Rev. J. Richards, asssstant secretary ; Rev. W. A. Lee, journal secretary ; Rbv. H. BulL corresponding secretary.
