M* Javdine, Sub-Librarian of the Public Library, has resigned. Mr M'Callum, jeweller, has given a gold medal to bo fired, for in connection with the representative firing of the New Zealand Rifle Association. Tvyo lots of snperior ewes and ratns were imported yesterday by the Ring.i rooma from Tasmania, and arrived in excellent condition. The same vessel brought eleven handsome specimens of short-horned cattle, which was a very valuable lot. Messrs J. T. Ford and Co. sold Gilligan's horses Laertes and Javelin to-dny. The former is entered for, the Wellington Cup, the Napier Handicap, and'tHe Dunerlin Publican's Handicap. After a spirited competition it was knocked down to Mr P. Butler for 450 guineas. Javelin was sold to Mr Delamain for 300 guineas. Janglec, the property of Mr was also offered, but was passed in at 450 guineas. Mr John Grigg, of Long Beach, has bought one of the heifers imported by Mr Simpson from Victoria, for 400 guineas. The hoifor was calved on July 25 1878, and is by Oxford Cherry Duke, 32,016, E. Herdbook, dam Moss Rose IV.
