Port Chalmers, Jan. 17. The barque Athelberht, which arrived at the Heads laat evening, from Newport, Monmouthshire, brings a full cargo of railway materials. Her passage from Home has occupied 105 days, and has been rather an eveutful one, as, for the space of 3G hours, she was in imminent danger of being crushed by no less than 100 large icebergs, immense fields of broken ice having been passed through during that period. New Plymouth, Jan. I£. , The Taiaroa, with the San Francisco mail, arrived' at daylight, and left again shortly after seven. She takes the following passengers from here for the south : Mesdaines Northcroft and Lowery Miss Richmond. Messrs Caverhill, Collins, Marks, Shaw, Dumbell, and Moore.
