London, Dec. 21. A letter from the Queen expresses her heartfelt thanks for the universal sympathy expressed for her affliction. A plot has been discovered to assassinate the Einperer of Austria. A difficulty has arisen in the British jurisdiction of Cyprus, Italy contesting. Bismarch has written a letter to the President of the Federal Council, advocating a protectionist policy. Decomber 29. The report of the arrival of Yakoob at Jellalabad is unconfirmed. The marriage of tho Duke of Connaught is fixed for March 13. The Ohimborazo is at Plymouth.
The Post publishes the following special : — London, December 30. General Roberts held a durbar at Jellalabad, where all the chiefs of the Afghan frontier were assembled, and there lie announced to them that henceforth' Great Britain was to be the Sovereign Power. A riot originating among the students at Kiev, produced a great disturbance and bloodshed. The troops were called out, and fired among the rioters with the result that 80 students were killed.
