Those in the habit of using guano, superphosphates, or other fertilizers will understand the value of a machine which will distribute it equally over the land whether the wind is blowing hard or not. Broadcast hand sowing is both disagreeable, laborious, and ineffective. No amount of supervision will secure honest work on the part of the men employed, whose inaiti object will be to get over the job as quickly as possible, so that the fertilizer at best is always unequal, irregular, and consequently wasteful. The machine illustrated ia the improved manufacture of James Smyth and Sons. We have not seen it in actual work ; but from an inspection during the week, kindly permitted by Messrs W. G. Ainsworth and Co., of 187, York-street, Sydney, of a machine put together, we can say that it is likely to prove effective. It provides for distributing th« material employed so that not a foot square on an acre of ground would have a spoonful more or less than any other square foot on the same. It It can be rerulated so as to distribute either light or heavy dressings. It will distribute either dry or damp manure ; pulverises it if lumpy, mixes thoroughly , and distributes in minute particles. It is of very simple construction, not liable to get out of order, and can easily be drawn by one horse, even when large enough to cover eight feet. The machine we examined, Messrs Ainsworth and Co informed us had been disposed of, and is to be used in a largo orangery.— Sydney Paper.
