CRICKET MATCH. OAMARU C.C VERSUS DUNEDIN ALBION C.C.

This match took place on New Year's Day, on the new ground, and was favored with weather that was all that could he desired. The wickets were pitched a little past eleven, and Oamaru having won the toss, elected to go in, and were represented by Messrs Sumpter andCooke. The last named was the first wicket to fall, and Nicholls next appearing, the Dunedin men, knowing his hitting powers, were glad to see him go from a good catch by Crawshaw, with 11 to his name, a good 4 hit being included for which they should *run 5. De Lautour, the next in gave the field some trouble ; he and fer completely collared the bowling, necessitating several changes. At last, however, they were separated, Sumpter being caught at square leg, after making ! 17 by steady play. De Lautour ultimately succumbed to one of Duckmanton's, after adding 15 to the score in a very creditable manner. The innings now closed quickly afteT>4J made by G. Miliington and 7 by J, Miliington, making the total 83. The Dunedin men were not long in appearing at the wickets, evidently determined to make a stand, but were doomed to be somewhat disappointed, wickets falling quickly. Buckland, an experienced knight of the willow, batted steadily for his 5, and was nicely taken at the wickets by Sumpter. Fowler headed the list with 9, Hutchison being next with 7, Duckmanton 6 ; the innings closing for 41, leaving 42 in favor of Oamaru. In the second innings, Oamaru played carelessly, being pretty certain of the game, De Lautour being the only one who made a stand, showing good cricket for his score of 17, And would have carried his bat most probably if he had not been too eager to make runs. The 'Albion, in their second innings, were determined to try and put a different complexion upon the state of the game, but the bowling of Miliington and Lowe was too much for them, almost every ball being on the wicket. Fowler, Douglas, and Buckland played steadily, but could not get the ball away. Maiden over followed maiden over, and at one time no run was added to the score for half an hour. The wicket played truly, being only a little bumpy at the end of the second innings. In this innings, the Albion only sent 9 men in, owing to two of their number having to catch a train. At halfpast six they departed for town, being cheerful under their defeat. Oamaru won tlfo game by 59 runs. Appended are the scores : —
