No owner, driver, or oonduotor in oharge | of or in attendance upon any oarriage shall drive the same furiously,oarelessly, or wantonly while the same shall be in aotual use, or be drunk or use any obsoene or blasphemous language,or any threatening, abusive, or insulting words ot gestures, or otherwise so misbehave himself as to annoy any person riding therein. 18. Until and subjeot to amendment or alteration as the Oounoil may at any time hereafter from time to time see fit, the fares chargeable for the oonvevanoe of passengers in lioensed carriages shall be as set forth in the sohedule hereto, it being at the option of the hirer whether to hire by time or by distanoe, provided that suoh fares shall be inclusive of all charges for luggage not exceeding 281bs in weight for each passenger. Provided further that nothing in Ibis by-law shall extend to affeot the validity of any spsoial agreement made with any person by the owner or driver of any licensed oarriage for any future hiring or at any time when suob carriage shall not be upon any publio stand or plying for hire. 19. Charges by distance for licensed carriages shall be computed from the stand or place from whioh the carriage was hired. 20. Except in the oases in this clause specified no driver of any licensed oarriage shall permit tho same to stand elsewhere than on some publio stand. (1.) Any driver may wait for hire at any plaoe then open for publio amusement or for any publio assemblage provided he wait at the side of the street not less than 80 feet distant from a point opposite the centre of the chief entrenoe of such plaoe then open as aforesaid. (2.) Any driver hired to wait at any such plaoe of amusement or publio assemblage nay take his turn in front of such plaoe. (8.) Any hired driver may wait for his hirer at any convenitnt plaoe whioh may be appointed by suoh hirer at ths side of any street. 21. No driver of any lioensed oarriage plying for hire or waiting upon any publio stand shall unless then actually hired by some othet person or without other reasonable cause refuse or neglect to take immediately any faro not exceoding the number of persons whioh suoh carriage is lioensed to carry, nor shall any suoh driver refuse or negleot to oarry any reasonable quantity of luggage for any porson hiring or dosiring to hire such carriage, nor shall he without reasonable cause refuse or negleot to drive to any place within the Incorporated Town of Oamaru nor shall he unless required by suoh hirer drivo at a slower speed than six miles an hour. 22. No owner or driver of any licensed oarriage shall exaot or domand for the hire thereof to any place any greater sum \han may be properly ohargnable under clause 18 And in the event of any suoh overcharge boing paid, the Justices or Resident Magistrate by whom any oharge under this seotion may be adjud.oated may in addition to imposing the penalty hereinafter providod, order the ownor or drivor exaoting suoh overcharge to pay the amount thereof to the party agiineved. 28. No owner or driver of any lioensed oarriage having agreed to take my fare at any timo to or from any place shall refuse, neglect, or delay to fulfil suoh agreement. 24. The driver of any hired licensed oarriago shall not allow any person to ride on the box or in or upon any part of such oarriage without the express permission of the person hiring the same: 25. AH penalties recoverable under these By-luws shall be reoovered in a summary way before two Justices of the Peace or a Resident Magistrate in tbe manner provided by the said Aots. 27. The word oarriage in those By-laws shall be taken and deemed to mean any licensed vehiole plying for passengers. 28, The following shall be stands for licensed carriages viz. : — The centre, of Thames street between the Post Office (and Mechanics' In* stitute. The south side of Wansbsrk street between Tyne street and the Railway Fence. The centre of Thames street from North Town .Boundary to Ouse street. And suoh othor stands as may be from timo to time appointed by the Counoil.

SCHEDULE. Fabss tor Lioinsbd Carriages. Faros by time for lioensed carriage drawn by one horse. For the first hour, (4t) four shillings por hour } for every subsequent hour, (8s) three shillings per hour j half and quarter hours at. same rates. Fares by time for licensed oarriage drawn by more than one hores. For the first hour, (ss) five shillings por hour j for every subsequent hour (4s) four shillings psr honr j half and quarter hours at same rates. Fares by distance. From any place to any place, Is per mile per passenger. Any distance less than a mile to count as a mile. Between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. Is 6d per milo per passenger.
