The protocol recognises the necessity of European concert. It favors the desire of Montenegro for the rectification of her frontier ; invites the Porto to reduce its aimy to a peace footing 5 recognises Turkey's promise of reform ; and hopes for I its energetic exeoution. If the Porte disappoints the other Power* they will then consider the best means for securing the well-being of the OhrUtians and the general peace of Europe. The Porte is displeased with the protocol, and will probably refuse to disarm. Montenegro maintain* her demands. There is great uncertainty as to the course of events. Wool inactive. Money easier. Wheat strong ; stocks reduced. New Zealand, 53s to 565. Tallow weak ; Australian mutton, L 39 to L4l ; beef, L3B to L 39. New Zealand hemp depressed, L2O to L 23, nominal. Arrived — Merope.
