SHEARERS' UNION.

The annual general meeting of uV Shearers' Union took place on Saturday night at the Mechanics' Institute, l Mr M'Lcnnan, President, in the chair ; Mr , Coombe, Secretary, and about 15 others being present. The Secretary read the minutes of the last meeting, which were, on motion dnly made and carried, confirmed. The Secretary then read the following

The Sjcrttary uid that he bad written to the $ecretanr of the Dunedin Union, but had received no reply. Tho motion was seconded by Mr M'Grogor, and oarried. Tho Chairman said there was no ■ooonder to Mr M'lvor's motiort. He would not bo in favor of doing away with the money as proposd. Ho thought thoy ■hould buy a seotion, or oven leftve the money in tho Bunk. Mr Craig laid he thought the Secretary •nd Treasurer were entiled to some remuneration for their past gervioos. Tho Secretary had received ft pero»nt.,but no salary such as was given to secretaries to Oddfellows' lodges, &o. He moved that LI 5 bo paid to the Secretary in recognition of his three years' services. Tho motion was secondod by Mr M'Pherson, and carried, On the motion of Mr Craig, sdoonded by Mr Murray, it was further resolved that a prosont of the value of L 5 be made to tho Treasurer, Mr M*Gregor. Mr Prltoroon tooondod Mr M'lvor'* motion as to tho disposal of the balftnc#. Mr Murray movod as an amendment that tho wholo sum, viz., L 45 11s Bd, be dlvidod oqually botweon the Oamaru Hqwiial and the North Otago Benevolent Sod^ty. There had been a Shearers' XJnion in Dunodin, and probably thoy might have funds to dispose of in tKe saino way. Further, tho sum would be ■o small if dividod as proposed by Mr M'tvor. Mr Vincont sooondod the motion. Tho amendment was carried } voting for tho amondmont, 8 j for the oringnal motion, 4. On tho motion of Mr M'lvor, seconded by Mr Inglis, it was resolved that Messrs M'Coombo, M'Gregor, and Craig bo appointed a Committee to oarry out tho resolutions of tho meeting. After a vote of thanks to the chair tho mooting broke tip.
