PRESENTATION TO MR. W. J. INGLIS, OF KAKANUI.

This gontlemim, who has for some four yoars post been employed by the Now Zoalanu Moat Preserving Company, at tholr Works, Kakanui, prior to hit loaving tho Company's employment for an appointment in a well known Timaru houso, was on Thursday evening last, at 7 o'clock, presented with a very handsome watch, with gold albert ohain and appondages attached. Mr W. Moody, manager of the Company, was deputed to make tho presentation, and in doing so said that the watch had boon subscribed for by nearly all tho rosidonts of Kakanui Mouth, who, ho need hardly inform Mr Inglis, wero truly aorry that he was going from amongst them. Howevor, ho could assure Mr Inglis that he carried with him to his new sphere of action tho best wishes of all the residents in the town and district. Mr Inglis replied in a few words, saying that the gift was unexpected, but nevertheless It would bo prized by him, not for its mere intrinsic vaino, but for the generous kindness whioh had prompted those who had subscribed to it.

[ Mr Alex. Thomson, who had canvassed for subscription*, said that never had any subscription list in Kaknnui been so quickly filled as the one he had that day tho pleasure of taking round j as a proof of which he might say that the matter had only been suggested that afternoon at 3 o'olook, and at 4 o'olook all the money required was subscribed. The future prosperity of Mr Inglis having been (trunk, the company adjourned. Wo may mention that tho watoh wiis procured from tho atolior of Mr R. Lumsden, and bore tho following inscription : — " Preiented to Mr W. J. Inglis by the residents of Kakanui Mouth on his leaving for Tiinaru, July 13, 1876."
