IfoKTH Otago Times Officb Tuesday evening. There has been scarcely anything doing since our laat, business having been almost entirely suspended owing to the Christmas holidays.
Mr S. E. Shbimski reports that he sold the crop of glowing grass on the Hospital Reserve by public auction yesterday— the purchaiers being Messrs Swanson and Warburton— for the sum of Lll.
Messrs FiEMiifG and Hedley report that they heH a sale of fat and store cattle at "White's Yards yesterday. The attendance was small and the prices realised were scarcely up to late quotations. Fat cows brought from L8 to L9 ; store steers, L6 to L7 ; "2-year-olds, Lo to L5 15s.
DONEDIN.— Messr* "Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report for the week ending December 24 as follows :— The market for wheat remains stationary. Prime samples are saleable at from 4s 6d to 4s 8d per bushel ; medium, 4s 3d to 4s 4d ; fowls* feed, 3s 6d to 4s Id. Oats are in better request at from 2s Id to 2s 2d for feed, and 2s 3d for milling samples. Barley — Prime malting is worth 5s 6d per bushel.
POET CHALMERS.-Mr C. C. Campbell, Ceorge street, Port Chalmers, reports to Saturday'* " Guardian," (retail prices only) for the week ending 24th December as follows :— Oats, 2s 6d per bushel; wheat, 4s Gd per bushel;" chaff, L6 to L6 10s per ton ; bran, L5 to L5 10s per ton ; pollard L7 to L7 10s. pei ton ; barley dust L6 to L6 10s per ton ; flour Lll to Lll 10s per ton ; fresh butter lid to Is Id per lb ; salt ditto Is to Is Id ; new cheese, very fine, Is 2d per lb ; haras, own curing, very fine, Is 2d per lb ; bacon, own curing, la per lb ; very fino Scotch ling fish, 8d per lb.
CHRJSTCHTJRCH.— The "Lyttelton Times" of the 24th inst. reports : — No transactions in grain between farmer and merchant have come under our notice since last report, and there is no improvement to note in the grain market, -which still continues depressed. Several parcels of oats in store on farmers' account have been offered, but no business resulted, aa the price asked was Id to 2d over merchants' limit. "We quote wheat at 4s ; oats, 2a ; barley, nominal ; fresh butter, 8d ; cheese, 7d to 8d. Millers' quotations are unaltered, and a limited export demand exists for flour. Several shipments of oats, kc, are being made, with a view of clearing out stocks before the new grain conies in. Should the present favorable weather continue, we should have ryegrass seed in the market within the next ten days. The accounts to hand with regard to the crops are most encouraging.
