rpHE Pure-Bred Clydesdale Stallion 1 COMET. The property of James Gem m ell, Kakanui, Will Travel in the KAKANUI AND MOERAKI DISTRICTS. CO1IET is out of the imported mare Jean. Jean was bred by Alexander Galbraith, Croycunningham, Kilearu, a noted breeder and prize taker. Jean's dura was the famous mare Jeas, who gained six first prizes out of seven competitions. Jean also gaiued six first and second- prizes before leaving Scotland, and seventeen first and second pnzea since coming to this country. Jean's sire was the celebrated horse Justice ; grandsire, Mr Clarke's Prince Albert, who gaiued the Highland Society's second prize at Glasgow in 1850 ; first at Brechin in 1851 ; and first at Hamilton in 1852 ; g.g. sire Clyde, allowed to be the best horso in Britain in his day. Comet's sire is the celebrated horso Marquis. Marquis was bred by John Brown, Esq., Preston Hall, Heidelberg, and is allowed by competent judges to be the best horse ever bred ia Victoria. Marquis has gained the following prizes : — When one year old, two first prizes ; at two years old, three first; when three years old, six first and two second, showing against iniDorted horses ; when four years old, snowing against all corners,' four first, and one second ; and three daya before being shipped he carried off the first, prize at the Grand National Show at Geelong, over twelve competitors. In Otago he has gained four first prizes and six second. Marquis is by Prince Charlie, out of Mr Brown's celebrated mare Old Jean. Old Jean gained thirteen first prizes, and never was beaten in her day. , Comet is of a rick brown color, stands 17 hands high, is of great strength, compactly built, and of very superior action. He has proved himself «■ sure fo*l-getter. Comet I was first shown as a two-year old at the Taieri Show, when he got first prize. He was next shown qb a three-year old, against all classes, when he took Becond prize. When four years old, at Tokomairiro, took second prize, his sire being first. Tbbus, L4; Gboojiage, 5s. And all demands payable to the Groom on or before the 1st February, 1876, when the season ends. Guarantees as per agreement.
