BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH. ( FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) WELLINGTON, December 9, 1868.

A Mr Bruce, a passenger by the Rakaia for America from Melbourne, was arrested to-day, on a charge of embezzlement. Government telegrams, dated Turanganui, Dec. 6th, state that the Ngatiporu and Ngatikahunguru have disagreed. The latter returned, but the Ngatiporu made another attempt to take the enemy's position, which was an old pah, three sides of which were protected by cliffs, with bush in front. On one Bide were two long spurs, and a gully commanded by the pak. Eopata and his party climbed the cliffs by the trees, and took posj: in an entrenchment. Night came on, but they succeeded in holding the trench all night. They then ran short of powder and retired, the Hau-haus capturing and burning a number of tents and spare clothing. Women and children were afterwards seen escaping down the cliff. Scouts go out directly to see whether the enemy remain. The Ngatiporu are anxious to get home, but will come again when sent for. The total loss on our aide in the late engagement was 10 killed, 20 wounded. The dead bodies of 50 Hau-haus were found, and 3 prisoners wore captured. Nine of the enemy were hit from the trenches, four of whom are known to be dead. News from Napier on the 8th states : — The ascertained number of Hau-haus killed ia 70. Te Kooti's party are still in considerable strength and retreating, making rifle-pits as they go, towards Puketupu. December 13. The dissolution of Parliament is expected within a few days ; writs for the new elections to be issued immediately, and Parliament to meet as soon after as possible. The Hon. J. Hall has sent in his resignation of his seat in the Executive. It has not yet been accepted.
