Gillies & Street's Notice.

TUESDAY, 3rd NOVEMBER. 1868. . At. 12 nVlnnlr. KAKANUI TOWNSHIP. i^i ILLIES AND STREET are instructed by the proprietors to sell by public auction, at their rooms, Princes and Dowling streets, Dunedin, on Tuesday, 3rd November, at 12 o'clock — THE SEAPORT TOWNSHIP OF KAKANUI, Situate at the mouth of the Kakanui River, on tho SOUTH SIDE. The Auctioneers are aware that the many advantages of this rising locality are so well-known that it is hardly necessary to do more than to place tho Township in the market to ensure a successful sale j but, for the information of those who may not be acquainted with the locality, they state that the Kakanui is a navigable river — safe, and easy of access for vessels of 50 or 60 tons, and the produce of a vast tract of splendid country has in this valuable river an outlet and SAFE SHIPPING HARBOR, tho value of which it would not be easy to overrate. It is well-known that the richest and most extensive tracts of agricultural land in the Province are comprised in the country of which the Kakanui is the natural outlet, and that the building stone, known aa OAMARU STONE, A which will doubtless be an article of great and important trade, is found in immense quantity in the immediate locality, and can be shipped safely and directly on board of vessels lying inside the river, thereby securing the stone from damage by salt water. The township has been laid off in quarter-acre sections, with due regard to roads, and with a broad Esplanade fronting the sea and harbor, and will supply a want long felt — that of A WATERING-PLACE, where salt water bathing can be safely and conveniently had at all states of the tide. The aspect of the township is north-east, and the whole of the land completely free from the slightest danger from floods. Anticipating the convenience of easy shipment of produce, the settlers in the vicinity have already sown a considerable breadth in crop. Important Government works are now commenced for the further improvement of the harbor. It is believed that property in this township offer* a rare opportunity for investment, and that it will at no distant date be exceedingly valuable. Lithograph plans can be had of the Auctioneers ; or from Mr H. R. STEAVENSON, Oamaru. For further information, apply to GILLIES & STREET, Auctioneer* and Land Agents.
