He said the Government would not promise special legislation, but that the members for the Dittnct would endeavor to obtain 50 per cent, of tho territorial revonue. A motion was, however, carried unanimously in favor of complete severance from tho Province, and having the district declarod a County, now that tho authority of the Imperial Government had been granted. At the first meeting of the new Borough Council, it was resolved to cut down tho crown of tho hill between tho Bank of New Zealand and Strathallanstreet, which will be a decided improvement. The schooner Dancing Wave sails to-night for Hokitika, with a cargo of oats and other produce. The landlord of tho Club hotel is said to havo been robbed of L50 on Sunday night last, the money having been taken from his trousers pocket, in his bed-room, while asleep. As yet the affair is shrouded in mystery, and no clue whatever has been obtained to the deprodator. The weather continues very fine, with a light Northeast breeze.
