The following appeared as an Oamaktt Times "Extra" on Saturday afternoon : — The Rakaia arrived at Wellington at 3.20 p.m. on Friday. There ia little additional news. The Rakaia left Panama on 25th October and experienced a pleasant voyage throughout. She brings 62 passengers, a very heavy mail, and 185 packages of car^o. The following are the names of the passengers : — Mr Inglis, wife and daughter ; Mr Sandys, wife and child ; Mr Curtis aud wifo ; Sir O.Clifford, Mr Russell, wife and child ; Capt. Bell, Mr and Mrs Robinson and five children ; Miss Hall, Dr. Dixon, and thrco servants ; Mr and Mrs Pethler and child ; Madame Celesto, Miss Morton, Mr and Mrs Rickman, Messrs E. A. Thornhill, Thomson, Konyon, J. Tinline, Fitzgerald, Paraell (two), Hunter, Button, J. Cooke, Murphy, 0. L. Collins, W. Scott, 0. W. Dilko, Jas. Jack. Alderman "Waterlow and Mr Francis Sycett are the newly-elected Sheriffs of London and Middlesex. It is stated that the honor of knighthood will be conferred on Messrs Canning and Glass. British Legation, Athens, denies the statement that England advised Turkoy to cede Candia to Greece. The Serapois, 4000 tons, was most successfully launched at Blackwall. The Pope, French Emperor, Victor Emmanuel, and Count Bismarck are seriously ill. The King and Queen of Denmark are expected at Marlborough Ilouao. Another battle in Abyssinia. Losses — 23,000 killed ; 19,000 wounded. Finding some English amongst the enemy's dead, ordered evacuation (? execution) of all English captives except women and children.
