sale commenced with 50 long-woolled ram lambs, bred by Mr Robert Graham ; thoy averaged L5 103 each, varying from L15 to L3 15s. 20 Leicester hog rams, bred by M r liobet t M'Lean, brought from L20 10-t to L6, and averag» d L9 14s. After the first pen, for which there was no competition, the sale of the Southdown sheep— next in rotation — was not proceeded with. Following them, the ram lambs, bred by Messrs Wallace, of Maugarei, brought an average of L2 14s. Then a pea of ram lamb*, bred by Mi 1 John Grigg, L9 15s each. Although among the longwoolWl ewes offered there wore many of good quality, and all of them of largo frame, they were generally of an inferior class ; they brought L3 5s to L2 3s each, averaging L2 15s each. 430 were sold. The ewe lambs were, many of them, of very good quality ; they averaged L2 14s, varying from L3 2s Gd to L2 9s. The " Sydney Morning Herald" reports :— " There baa been a fair amount of business transacted during tho week, but prices, with the exception of breadstuffs, lulenbout the same as last week. Flour: This market is in a very disturbed state, owing to tho late heavy arrivals from California, and the great decline that has taken place in. MAURITIUS.— December 27.— The commercial embarrassment has subsided. Sugar, lower. White crystals, 7 dols. 57 to 75 cents ; yellow, 6 doK to 6 dols. 25 cents, veiy fine yellow counters, same figure.
