The Fine Arts.

THE ROYAL ASSOCIATION TOR PB0M0TI0N OF THE FINE ARTS IN SCOTLAND. Founded in 1833. Incorporated by Royal Charter 1847. The object of this Association — the first established in the United Kingdom for similar purposes — is to advance the cause of Art in Scotland, by affording encouragement to its professors : — I. The Association is composed of Annual Subscribers of One Guinea and upwards. II. The Funds of the Association are appropriated to the purchase of Modern Works of Art in Painting, Drawing, or Statuary, and to the execution or purchase of Engravings, Etchings, Bronzes, BasReliefs, Models, or other productions of Art, for distribution among the Subscribers. A portion of tho Funds is also devoted to the acquisition of Modern Works of Art towards the foamation of a National Gallery. III. A General Meeting of the Subscribers is annually held in July, when a Committee of Management is appointed for the ensuing year, and when the different Works purchased for the Association become, by lots publicly drawn, the property of individual members — Subscribers being entitled to one chance for every Guinea subscribed. IV. Each Subscriber of One Guinea is entitled to receive one plain impression of the Engraving or Engravings issued for the year of his Subscription — a Subscriber of Two Guineas, -one proof impression or impressions after letters — of Five Guineas, one proof impression or impressions before letters. PLAN FOR THE CURRENT YEAK, 1866 :— First. — Each Subscriber will have a chance of obtaining a Valuable Work of Art, at the Annual General Distribution in July, 1866. Second. — Each Subscriber will receive Six beautiful Line Engravings, after Original Designs, in illustration of Scott's " Guy Mannering," handsomely bound in a volume, with letterpress excerpts of the portions of tho novel illlustrated by the Artists, yiz. : — 1. Ellangowan Castle by Moonlight. Artist : John M'Whirter. 2. The Departure of tho Gipsies from Ellangowan. Artist : Clark Stanton, A.R.S.A. 3. Dandy Dinmont and his Terriers. Artist j Gourlay Steell, R.S.A. 4. Harry Bertram in the Kaim of Derncleugh. Artist : Wm. M'Tajrgart, A.R.S.A. 5. The Party at Colonel Manncring's on the Eve of Bertram's Return. Artist : Robert Herdman, R.S.A. 6. The Capture of Dirk Hatterick. Artist: J. B. M'Donald, A.R S.A, Note.— BONUS WORK FOR 1868.— The Committee propose that tho Bonus Work to be Distributed to those Subscribers who, between the years 1864 and 1868 inclusive, have paid up in one or more payments the amount of Five Subscriptions of One Guinea each, shall consist of Illustrations by eminent Artists of one of the principal Poems of Sir Walter Scott.
