WAIKOUAITI ELECIION. (Condensed from Co rrespondence of "Daily Times.")

The nomination of candidates to represont Waikouaiti in the Assembly, took placo yesterday (2Gth February), in front of tho Court-house, in the presence of about seventy p< oplo. The Returning Officer, Mr Murdoch, having read the writ, Mr John Orbell* proposed Mr Vogel. He had much pleasure, ho "aid, in doing bo, as lie was convinced Mr vogel would prove a good representative. Mr J. R Jones seconded the nomination. Mr Swallow proposed Mr Murison. They all knew him, and would be glad to accord him support. The shortness of the time pi evented Mr Murison being present to explain his views. Had there been a mail train, ho would hnvo boon there to seek their support. Mr Durden seconded the nomination of Mr Murison. Mr Peareo proposed Mr Andrew Thompson ns a fit and proper person to represent the district in the Assembly. Mr 'Bates seconded the proposition. Mr Vogel then addressed the meeting. A show of hands was then taken by tho Returning Officer, who declared tho numbers to be— for Mr Vogel, 13; for Mr Murison, 12 ; for Mr Thompson, 5. Only electors were allowed to hold up their hands. Mr Swallow demanded a poll on Mr Murison's behalf. The Returning Officer declared that it should be taken on Wednesday. Mr Vogel proposed a vote of thanks to the Returning Officer, which was duly cniried.
