IMPORTATION OF CATTLE.

Tho following Proclamation was published in the " Provincial Government Gazette," of tho 9th inst. : PROCLAMATION Admitting Importa6ion of Cattle into the Province of Otago by the Poit of Dunedin, from tho Piovmce of Southland; and permitting the Diiving , of Cattle from Southland into such portions of Otago as are at preseiit ? or may hereafter be, declared to be Infected Districts. By the Honoiable John Hyde Harris, Supeiintendent of tho Province of Otago. Whereas by a Proclamation dated the twenty-sixth day of February last, I, John Hyde Harris, Superintendent of the Pioviuce of Otago, by virtue of tho powers delegated to mc under tho "Diseased Cattle Act, 1861," did proclaim and declaro that fiom and after the date of the said Pioclamation, and until further notice, the Province of Southland, in tho Colony of New Zealand, should be deemed to be and should bo an infected district within the meaning, and foi tho pui poses of the said Act; and I did thereby order that no cattle should be impoited either by land or by soa into the said Province of Otago from tho Provinco of Southland, or should be driven or brought for any pui pose, oi by any means- whatever, from the said Province of Southland into any part of tho said Province of Otago : And whereas it is expedient that the importation of cattle from the said Province of Southland into the Province of Otago, by way of the Port of Dunedin, should not bo any longer prohibited, and that the driving of cattle from the said P) ovince of Southland into the said Province of Otago, across such parts of the boideis of the &aid Province of Otago as are now or shall hereafter be included within any district declared to be an infected district, within the meaning of tho said Act, should not any longer bo prohibited : Now, therefore, I, John Hyde Harris, by virtue of the powers ve&ted in mc in this behalf, do hereby pioclaim and declare that I do hereby lesciud the said Pioclamation of the 26th day of February last, so far as tho sanio prohibits the importation of cattle by sea into tho Pioviuco of Otago by way of the port of Dunedin; and also so far as tho same prohibits the driving of cattle from tho said Provinco of Southland into the said Province of Otago acioss those parts of the bordois of the said Province as are now or may heienfter be included within any district declared to be an infected distiicfc within the meaning of the said Act: provided, however, that nothing herein contained shall be taken to pi event the Inspector of Cattle appointed under tho baid Act from inspecting cattle on board any vessel in the said poit, imported fiom Southland ; or from performing any of the duties of his office in regard to such cattle, as specified in the fourth section of the said Act.
