County Engineers’ Report

Cr. I. J. Berghan presided over a full Council at the meeting of the Mangonui County Council on Wednesday when the County Engineer Mr. A. M. Theed, made report as fol lows : A considerable part of the period has been wet and many works have been delayed in consequence. MAIN HIGHWAYS No. 461, Wainui-Ahipara Two loads of repair metal were delivered and surface was graded. No. 481, Kaitaia-Motukaraka: Roa 1 was graded early in the period but is in urgent need of further grading 45 c.yds. of repair metal were used and surface work was in hand throughout. Some bridge repair will now be done. No. 518, Pamapuria-Oruru : Grader has been operating on most of the road and repair metal amounting to 25 c.yds. was spread. In addition a dump of 32i c.yds. of crushed metal ex Fern Flat was established a. Peria. No. 562, Waipapakauri - Awanui • Grading only was done. COUNTY ROADS Houhora Riding : Repairs have been in hand on Great North Road and grading will now b e done. A box culvert was repaired on Cox’s Road. Some further work was done on West Coast Beach Access and some neta l will now be delivered to this. A culvert was repaired on West’s Road and the turning place improved. Awanui Riding : Grader was on Parapara Road early in the period. Ramp to Tokerau Beach was badly damaged and has been repaired. One load of metal was delivered to Kumi Road and some repair done on R leys Road. Timber has been cut for culverts on Rangiputa Road. Oruru Riding : Grader shaped up Oruru-Taipa, Peria-Valley, Fern Flat and Kohumaru Roads and repair metalling was in hand. Metal was delivered to Fern Flat Road—ll2) c.yds Kohumaru 65 c.yds. and Oru-ru-Taipa 7i 'c.yds. Some bridge repair was done on Peria-Vallev and Oruru-Taipa Roads and timoer is being located for Fern Flat Bridges. A breakaway was repaired on Kohumaru Road. Mangonui Riding : Grader has worked on Hihi, Oruaiti and Kohumaru Roads and Mangonui Streets. Reformation was done on one street to provide an alternate dry weather route. Surfacework was doiie on Hihi, Kohumaru and Mangonui - Oruru Roads. Repair metal included 15 c.yds. to Hihi and 46) c.yds. to Mangonui Streets. Victoria Valley Riding : Surfacework was in hand on Duncans, M*l- - Fishers and Waiotehue Roads. Graders will now be moving into this riding. Repair metal was delivered to Switzers Road 9 c.yds., Fishers Rd. 11 c.yds., and Waiotehue Rd. 3 c.yds. Bridge repair was done on Whites Bridge. Kaitaia Riding : General repairs were in hand on Wireless and Dells Roads and grader raked in metal and trued surface. Repair metal amounted to 33 c.yds. on Wireless, 5i c.yds. on Bells and 3 c.yds. on Church Roads. Herekino Riding : Grading has been in hand on Herekino-Whangape, Whangape, Owhata, Puhata, Dysartc, Powells and Diggers Valley Roads. Surfacework was done on Smiths, Diggers Valley and Herekino - Whangape Roads and a bridge was repaired on Diggers Valley Road. Metal was delivered to Herekino-Whangape 36' c.yds., Owhata 3 c.yds., Diggers Valley 5 c.yds., and Bakers 3 c.yds. Ahlpara Riding : Ahipara Foreshore and Roma Roads received 6 c.yds. of metal each and grader worked on Epakauri Road. Some repair work was done on Kiwi Street access to beach from the Beach Township. GENERAL Mangonui Wharf : Repairs were done to launch steps.
